“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music” – Friedrich Nietzsche I have always loved the above quote, but in a cruel twist everyone who hears the music will think me insane because they can see that I can’t dance. That is not going to stop me now. The George Snow Scholarship Fund asked me to participate in their 7^th annual “Boca’s Ballroom Battle” a spin-off of Dancing with the Stars event on August 16, 2014. After an emphatic “no”, I find myself all in. I am having a great time learning to dance with my amazing instructor and professional dance partner, Ashley. It is actually relaxing and challenging at the same time. You can follow my progress by clicking on pictures or video, located above.  If you look closely you will see that I am not singing, I am counting…1, 2, 3…1, 2, 3…I am trying to get my feet to keep up with my lips. Please come laugh and cheer with my family and friends and support this great event. My objective is to win the Fundraising “Mirror Ball” trophy and try to break the record for the most money raised to support this wonderful cause. My first reaction when asked to dance in the Boca’s Ballroom Battle was an immediate and definite no. But by the next morning, I realized that I routinely make a spectacle of myself. Why not do this for the benefit of under-funded college students? I am an aggressive trial attorney, not a civic do-gooder like my wife and many of our friends. On the rare occasions when I stop being self-absorbed or absorbed in family, friends and clients, my passion is education. I was rescued from marginal, public elementary and junior high schools in Perrine and Cutler Ridge, Florida during the 60’s. Somehow, as a result of great luck, I ended up at Nova High School, the magnet school in Ft. Lauderdale. I then had the privilege of attending Colgate University. Those later educational experiences changed my life. The knowledge, skill and character you obtain from a solid education are yours to keep. For many years I have served as a fundraiser for both the Gulfstream and St. Andrew’s Schools. The George Snow Scholarship Fund has also been a favorite charity of mine. It changes young lives through education, giving scholarships annually to deserving college students. These graduates often return to our communities and enhance our own lives. I hope you will join me in supporting this event.
